Muddy Munchkins Forest Nursery offers outdoor learning and forest school education to pre-school toddlers. Muddy Munchkins is based in West Parley, between Bournemouth and Ferndown. The staff of five have decades of experience in childcare and learning through play.

Their goal is to allow children to engage with nature and the elements in a space where they can run, climb, make a noise, and explore safely but freely. Muddy Munchkins say “Children’s language develops better outside, and they thrive when doing practical, physical learning activities. EVERY area of learning including mathematics and literacy can happen outside.”

In 2019 they commissioned us to create a vibrant and easy-to-use website to promote their services to families in the surrounding area. Director Kirsty Lester said “so many websites in this sector seem to be aimed at the toddlers themselves, with bubblegum colours and a fluffy toy logo, but our audience is really the parents”. Accordingly our design is definitely geared towards a grown-up audience.

The Muddy Munchkins team were familiar with WordPress but had experienced difficulties with their sister site for Sunbeams Day Care. We found it relied on an inflexible off-the-shelf WordPress theme and that was causing most of the problems. So for Muddy Munchkins we created an entirely bespoke WordPress theme which gave Kirsty and her team all the flexibility they needed.

Through their WordPress dashboard the team can of course add and update pages, news, menus, gallery pictures, testimonials and much more. Vital information for parents, like the kit list, is laid out simply and clearly and in an easy to read fashion.

The site is designed to be SEO friendly, something the sister site was falling down on. And phone numbers and an email address are always prominent, something that busy parents obviously need to be able to get to quickly and easily.
