Project
Ecommerce Website
Online kits and subscription services have boomed in recent years, with startups offering you the chance to make everything from candles to sushi in the comfort of your own kitchen. The Covid pandemic has merely accelerated the trend.
One Dorset business believes there’s space in this market for upholstery kits. Upholstery Made Simple (UMS) is the ecommerce arm of Wimborne upholstery business the Dorset Chairman. The online shop sells kits with everything you need to build and upholster your own footstool. A range of stool sizes and leg options are offered.
Furthermore, as well as your kit through the post, you get exclusive access to a specialist video tutorial (made by master upholsterer Alan Payne) to walk you through your project. The videos are excellent, since Alan is an experienced video performer and upholstery teacher, with many years of teaching both in person and online.
Our brief was to create a simple ecommerce store front and admin back end to handle product inventory and order fulfilment. We opted to use WooCommerce to handle the ecommerce requirements, and built an entirely custom WordPress theme to keep things clean and simple for the website visitor.
We tweaked the WooCommerce email functions to ensure that with each purchase a unique video access code arrives, giving the customer access to the video tutorial (not otherwise publicly available) that matches his or her choice of stool.
