Our customer in the airline industry required a mobile app to run on top of their enterprise-wide management database. Many of its engineers have limited access to a PC at work and traditionally logged paper timesheets. Not only did paper timesheets need rekeying by hand into the management database, but they also generated ambiguous or innacurate timesheet data. The mobile app component was needed to allow these kinds of employees to log timesheets and holiday requests via their own smartphones. Accuracy would be improved by enforcing a few simple timesheet logging rules.
Our approach for this kind of project is to use ASP.NET. By using ASP, we could re-use some of the source code and business logic from the main desktop app.
The mobile app had to be plain and simple. No one likes doing timesheets so we are pleased to have produced a solution which is fast and easy to use. Engineers and other employees can now quickly drop timesheet data into the company database via their own smartphones and tablets.
This customer’s employees have gone from traditional paper-based timesheets & holiday booking to a 21st century phone-based system in just a few months. As a result, our client no longer has to waste time rekeying paper timesheet data, or chase up inaccurate or ambiguous timesheet data.
